Mom Loves Cooking

I do think that all moms love to cook or at least, almost all mothers know how to cook as they are the ones who best known as the cooking expertise in preparing the meal.

Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food." - Genesis 1:29

Actually, when I'm thinking about mother's cooking, suddenly it reminds me about my mom who loves to cook! 🍲🍳. I can say that, our kitchen is like her "second home" because mom will always spend most of her time in the kitchen doing her cooking stuff, read her food recipes, explore her favourite ingredients and all..😅. And also because, my mom is a full time housewife. So, it's obvious that mom is an expert in the kitchen!

I admit that I am not as good as my mom when it comes to cooking or baking. I remember that when I was younger, the first thing that I had learned from her was to cooked rice on the stove. Well, we used to have an old stove long time ago which mom always using it for cooking and baking. And also eventually, she even taught me how to cooked rice using an electric rice cooker! 😆. To be honest, even now I'm still learning from her whenever I'm cooking or sometimes baking, in the kitchen when I am back home.

She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants. - Proverbs 31:15

Actually, there's this one time that it makes me thinking about the differences between me and my mom with all these cooking stuff 😬. I think, in the older generation, most women in general, are embracing housework more because as a full time housewife, they know that there are tasks and duties involved in maintaining a home that often include cleaning, cooking, laundry, and other activities necessary for keeping a household running smoothly. In other words, they're expert in doing housework just like my mom! 😍. But then, as time passes by, we become more selective as to how we live our lives, don't we? 😳.

For the younger generation, I think women now can have more options in terms of work or career and not solely being a full time housewife anymore. As for myself, being compared with my mom, I may be an expert in my terms of work but not in the kitchen! 😯. Well yes, for women to have a job, or work, or even a career is good! But, when it comes into handling housework within a family, it's always the women who are excellent in managing all the household chores and nurturing children. In fact, all women naturally are born toward femininity, exhibit feminine behaviours and roles in a family. Or, in other words, women are created for a reason.

If I would like to go much deeper, it's something like this...

"To all women, whether you have realized it or not, it does not change the truth of your life's purpose. You exist to be a helper to a man. That is why God created you. You can be a daughter, a friend, a nurse, a teacher, a writer, a painter, a musician, a business owner, and so on... But all of these just to show your abilities, not your purpose. Your purpose is to be a helper to a husband. Together, you have a function to perform. You were created for a reason, to help this world bring forth good."

The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." - Genesis 2:18

Furthermore, in this new generation, in my opinion, we need to get our work-life balance right. It describes as a state in which the components of a work and private life are in perfect harmony with each other by completing daily work without neglecting any part of private life. It means something like, being able to have a job that provides adequate salary while also being able to spend time with friends and family consistently, to take care of your home, to have a vacation and to take time for yourself.

Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. - Genesis 9:3

Anyway, speaking about my mom's cooking as a full time housewife, actually there're great things that I do learn from her 😊.

I begin to realize that my mom is more passionate about cooking than anyone else I know. She spends her days poring over books and magazines pertaining to food and recipes.

Although cooking and baking are the things that make her heart sing, in general, "creating something" is what she is a natural at. And also, at different times in her life, mom has taken up sewing clothes, sewing beads and gardening.

There're times I usually notice that, days before any guests come over to our house, my mom will prepare to welcome them with a special meal, eyeing on her quality ingredients of her favourite meal at the store or market and filling the kitchen with the best ingredients for an extravagant broth or a super delicious soup!

Elijah said to her, "Have no fear. Go and do as you have said. But make me a little loaf of bread from it first, and bring it out to me. Then you may make one for yourself and for your son." - 1 Kings 17:13

My mom does not talk a lot but, I learn how to understand mom through her cooking. Sometimes, she sings while cooking! 😂. And, while she is singing, I immediately know that she enjoys her cooking!

Growing up, I would watch her standing in front of the cooking pot on the stove and slowly stirring her soup. I begin observing her at how to cut vegetables, how to peel fruits, how to slice meats, how to knead doughs...

As she works silently and methodically, and never slowing down, I start to appreciate the hard work and when she puts her heart into each meal.

Of all the things that I've learned from my mom, the most beneficial thing is the way she turns even the most ordinary ingredients into something special. She has the knowledge of beautiful things can be made wherever you are with a little resourcefulness and ingenuity.

It's the art of making something out of nothing. A lesson in not just cooking, but life itself 😇.

You cause grass to grow for the livestock and plants for people to use. You allow them to produce food from the earth; wine to make them glad, olive oil to soothe their skin, and bread to give them strength. - Psalm 104:14-15

I think, when we think about cooking, we realize that it's more than just making food to eat. It's something that brings people together and fills the home with warmth and love.

I get to learn that there's something special about preparing a meal for someone. It's a simple way to show that you care and to serve others with your hands and heart. When we cook, we're doing something that is not just about feeding the body but also about nurturing the soul because the act of sharing a meal brings comfort and joy.

While cooking provides nourishment for the body, it serves as a reminder that our souls also need feeding through God's Word. In the bible, cooking is not just a physical act but a reminder of the spiritual nourishment that comes from God's hand 🙏.
